Daily Journal Continued November 21,1998, William Thomas Thompson Thy kingdom come,Thy will be done on earth as in Heaven. Most Italiam trains are painted with Graffiti. It seems to all be the same. I want to get out there and paint some on myself.We had a change back there from the Swiss train to the Italian. We had 3 minutes to exchange from one train to the other. Coming down off the Swiss Alps is strange country but beautiful. This is an expe-rience of a life time. We have been to Milan 29 years ago and up on that big mountain to buy the miniature Christmas treelights. I can see a difference already in the people and style of everythi-ng. We are now in the Teco Hotel in Milan and have had a good br-eakfast including boiled eggs. We must rush now and see the last Supperby-Leonardo Da Vinci atthe Santa Maria Delle Grazie Church. First we must check out and store our luggage. The hotel required to collect L80,000 or about $52.00 for what they call adjustment. In other words,they collect on both ends and are paid twice for a old place. The hotel back in Lausamme did this to us for what was said would be $14.00,they collected $37.00. The world is hungry for money anyway they can get it and that they do. Take my advice and stay home,the charge by the Tecohotel was listed as"noservice charge"on our list but we did not check it before paying them. It is these things that spoilatrip and kill the goodwill for an enj- oyable time as it should be. Hotel rates have gone up 1000percent in those 29 years since we were here. This hotel was hard to find for the ItalianLady taxidriver,she ask other drivers and the dis- patcher and almost never found it. Don't forget it is very cool. This painting in print seems to please every Christian church. We now stand before the great and famous painting of last Supper on the back wall of this church and it looks like a ruin. It is all cracked and flaked off,it is being restored and maybe not for the first time. The artist got into trouble finishing it on time 500 years ago but kepted on painting while they took him to court and finished it before the court had any final decision. The wall was damp and the paint kept coming off reportedly,like the trail-er did down in Florida for me. On the rear wall is painted a huge 3 crosses crucifixion fresco by Giovanni Donato Montorfano. When we saw the crowd outside waiting to get in this morning,I thought it would take all day but by some miracle they parted and we went through. This wonderful color book I bought outside of 128 pages of art and of Milan is worth the trip at $12.00. It took the trip to get it,Giovanna Magi(All Milan) with 205 color photographs and city map. Milan's origins according to the writings of the Roman historian Livy,"may be traced back to the Celts".We now have taxi for a short tour on the way back to the hotel to get the luggage and on the train station where the express is leaving at 1.30 be- fore reported for Venice. Thank you Lord that we made it and have shortened our time in the cold train station. Thank you Lord that we will arrive in daylight to see the water streets of Venice. At 4p.m. we arrived in Venice and walked to the hotel,a best western old historic hotel on the main street and only street with ground under your feet. This is actually a 4 star hotel so very lovely. Boats are everywhere crossing back and forth with water taxis for the town to take you everywhere you may want to go. We shopped on the main cobblestone street on solid ground all around the hotel.
